One island. Four rivals. Zero internet.

An island for two to four people. Pass one phone round the table, link phones over Bluetooth, or take on the bots — no accounts, no lobbies, no waiting for someone's turn to arrive by notification.

End turn

How it plays

Three things to know. The rest the game teaches you while you play.

1

Claim your corners

Two settlements to start. Every corner touches three hexes, and every roll pays whoever is sitting on the number.

2

Trade for the rest

Offers are cards you move out of your hand. Raise one without withdrawing it, and take a card back with a single tap.

3

Build to ten

Roads, settlements, cities, and a few points you keep to yourself. Ten ends it — and everyone finds out what you were hiding.

Is this the official CATAN® app?

No. Ostrivia is an independent game, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected with CATAN GmbH, Catan Studio, Asmodee, or any other board-game publisher. CATAN® and The Settlers of Catan® are registered trademarks of CATAN GmbH — we mention them here only to make clear that we are not them.

So what is Ostrivia?

An original game in the hex-and-trade tradition: roll dice, gather resources, strike deals, build. Game rules and mechanics as such are not protected by copyright — in the words of the U.S. Copyright Office, "Copyright does not protect the idea for a game, its name or title, or the method or methods for playing it." Everything in Ostrivia — every drawing, icon, word of the rules, and line of code — was made by us, from scratch.

One phone or everyone's own?

Your table, your call. Pass & Play sends a single phone round the table. Play Nearby gives everyone their own screen, connected directly over Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi — same room, zero internet. Play with Bots fills the empty seats, or all of them. And Play Online is on the way.

Is it really free? Where's the catch?

Free, no ads, and it plays offline. There's no account to create and no notifications begging you to come back. We spent five years building the game we wanted to play — the only catch is convincing three friends to sit down. (The bots never need convincing.)

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

Neither, in any mode. Play Nearby talks phone-to-phone over Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi, and the bots live on the device, so everything works in airplane mode — including on an actual airplane. When Play Online arrives, it will be the only mode that ever needs a connection.

How long is a game?

About 30–45 minutes for two to four players. If you're three and one seat feels empty, a bot will take it — without complaining about the trade you just refused.

I've played a similar board game. Will I feel at home?

By the end of your first turn. Ostrivia's rules are written in our own words and taught right inside the app, so newcomers learn as they play — and veterans of hex-and-trade games can skip straight to arguing about sheep.

Someone has to go first.

Free on iOS. Nothing to sign up for.
